What actually does an IT Application Manager @ RATIONAL

That's what we asked Sascha W., an IT Application Manager at RATIONAL.

How would you describe your work?
My colleagues and I look after the numerous systems in the company that enable RATIONALers to perform their daily work smoothly. We have divided up the various systems. For example, I look after three programs and each colleague is responsible for a specific area and is therefore the contact person for end-user support for the further development of the programs, training, maintenance and customization projects.

And what does it look like in your team?
In my own area of responsibility, I work very independently and have a lot of freedom in the design of my topics. I also really appreciate the cooperation between the team members. Although we have completely different expertise, backgrounds and age groups, we all appreciate the competence of our colleagues and can thus deal constructively with challenges together and have logical, unbiased discussions at eye level.
Our manager, moreover, always has an open ear and provides support where she can.

What is perhaps different at RATIONAL than in other IT departments?
Our tasks are more diversified. I am always supported in my tasks by the platforms' external service partners. This gives me the chance not only to apply my IT expertise, but also challenges my skills in managing processes and collaborating with system partners, which brings a lot of variety to my day-to-day work.

What's your next project:
It's about expanding and developing the agile, cross-team way of working in mechanics so that the project pipeline can be managed in a prioritized way in the process.

What does a perfect day look like for you?
First a good coffee and a chat with colleagues in the morning and then a good mix of meetings and working time, few tickets and no major disruptions!
