F&A do?

That's what we wanted to know from David, an F&A (Finance & Admin) for the area EMEA.

That's what we wanted to know from David, an F&A (Finance & Admin) for the area EMEA.

What are your most important tasks?
As an F&A at RATIONAL International, I have typical F&A tasks at a central level, such as aggregating figures or presenting plans. I also take on a local F&A role in some markets and am heavily involved in day-to-day business there. In addition, I support the sales department in important customer projects, calculate the accruals for employee bonuses and prepare the comments for the monthly reporting. Other big issues are, of course, the planning as well as margin calculations for various projects. I have a wide range of tasks in the daily workflow, which makes my job very interesting.

Do you have a favourite project?
What I find very exciting is my current project. It's about evaluating whether it would be profitable to set up another subsidiary. What's special about it is that you work together with so many different processes, such as logistics, people, credit management, IT, etc. That's quite a challenge, but you get to know different ways of thinking and gain a new understanding of the other's points of view and can comprehend them better.

What is special about RATIONAL International?
RATIONAL International has its headquarters in Switzerland - more precisely in Heerbrugg. Heerbrugg is a "small, fine mixture" of local issues in the individual markets and coordination with central processes. In my opinion, it is precisely this combination that makes it that interesting. And what is also very special for RATIONAL International is the high level of internationality at the location. You get to work with colleagues from all over the world with very different cultural backgrounds.

How does controlling at RATIONAL differ from other companies?
We see ourselves as a Finance & Admin contact person and business partner who develops solutions for the various requests. Our focus is on a holistic view of the entire financial area and not just on controlling as one part of it. Despite the size of the company, everyone here has a high level of personal responsibility. I think that's quite extraordinary.
