Role Summary

The Key Accounts Director has the goal of sustainable development of the National Key Accounts business with the aim of making RATIONAL the Partner of Choice by delivering tangible customer benefits.  They will focus on filling the pipeline through the selection and identification of Key Accounts within the territory where RATIONAL can generate sales and deliver tangible customer benefits.  This is accomplished through leading, maintaining and developing long-term relationships with both existing and new Key Account customers to grow sales volume. The Director will drive the introduction of RATIONAL products and services to future National Key Account customers.  In addition, they are responsible for working with the Street sales team and form strong working relationships with our business partners to further develop Regional Key Accounts.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Increase and advance customer base of new National Key Accounts into the pipeline and increase sales within the Key Accounts segment.
  • Maintain current customers in Partnership and manage selected National Key Account customers to maximize account opportunities and assure lifetime customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct customer presentations and participate in cooking events to excite them to test RATIONAL equipment.
  • Negotiate contract pricing to secure sales at profit objectives.
  • Identify and develop strategic business partners and multipliers, including independent rep organizations, distributors/dealers, allied suppliers and consultants.
  • Compile information and data related to customer and prospect interaction into CRM software.
  • Regularly provide accurate forecasts and business updates and participate in business strategic planning at local and global levels.
  • Travel for in-person meetings with customers and partners and to develop key relationships.
  • Monitor and report to executive management on sales team and key account issues.
  • Participate in or assist partners with regional trade shows and events when needed.

  • Understands and practices the concept of Strategic Selling 
  • Ability to find opportunities and understand customer’s needs
  • Bachelor’s degree in business and/or marketing or commensurate experience
  • 5 - 7 years of previous sales, sales management or business development experience 
  • Previous culinary experience or strong interest in cooking is preferred
  • Experience with Key Account management 
  • Skilled in the presentation of technically sophisticated manufactured goods 
  • Excellent computer skills (Outlook, Salesforce (or other CRM system), Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • At least 60% travel required, typically including continuous overnight stays.
